Aims

MISSION

"Sustainability South West is to be the independent champion of sustainable development in the South West."

ROLE

In seeking to achieve its overall mission, Sustainability South West, or SSW, has a number of different roles:

  • a catalyst for change
  • a provider of strategic advice
  • a disseminator of best practice and new ideas
  • a project initiator and manager
  • a partner in key regional processes
  • a cross-sectoral discussion forum

OBJECTIVES

  1. To represent key sectors with a substantial stake in the sustainable development agenda in the South West, and to promote consensus between them on the best way forward, regardless of the sector from which they come.
  2. To provide high-level strategic inputs to key regional bodies (e.g. the Regional Assembly, SWRDA, GOSW, Objective 1 and Objective 2 Partnerships, etc) with a view to embedding sustainable development at the heart of their policies and practice.
  3. To maintain an active working partnership with the Regional Development Agency.
  4. To develop a close and supportive relationship with the South West Regional Assembly.
  5. To maintain close relationships with Learning & Skills organisations in the South West.
  6. To assist in the work associated with the Regional Sustainable Development Framework and to promote this actively throughout the region on an ongoing basis.
  7. To promote other sustainable development initiatives and ideas to key groupings and sectors throughout the South West (e.g. business, local government, learning & skills , voluntary and community organisations) where SSW believes that it has a clear opportunity to add value to existing work at the regional level.
  8. To commission key research projects to help deliver the Round Table's overall mission.
