Aims

Global Action Plan is an independent charity committed to creating environmental and social change. We engage people and communities in dialogue and practical action, taking into account social and financial constraints.

Global Action Plan works with business, schools, communities and households across the UK and has more than 28,000 supporters. Our first regional office was established in the South West in 1997 and now works with over 2,000 supporters, 150 business, 16 schools, 3 communities and 9 local authorities. Global Action Plan's work in the South West is delivered within three key areas:

  • The environment - focusing particularly on waste minimisation, climate change and air quality.
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises - focusing on reducing resource use and improving efficiency through effective and appropriate training for staff.
  • Social issues and quality of life- linking with community strategies in both rural and urban communities through work with households, schools and business.
News Launch of Action at Home on the web
Thanks to funding from the Halifax and the New Opportunities Fund, Global Action Plan has now launched Action at Home on the internet (http://www.globalactionplan.org.uk/index_athome.html). Individuals can now try the GreenScore questionnaire online and work out how environmentally aware they are. There is a section giving Practical Information on saving energy, water and transport fuel, cutting waste and shopping in a more environmentally aware way. It is also possible to have your say about local services such as public transport and waste facilities.

Funding update
Thank you to the Energy Saving's Trust for agreeing to support the Carbon Reduction Innovation Support Pilot (CRISP). It will work in two Devon
communities - Teignbridge and Plymouth - to reduce carbon use and carbon dioxide emissions by changing individual, household and whole community attitude and behaviour, leading to more sustainable use of resources. The project aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5% in each household

School update
Knowles Hill School in Newton Abbott, Devon have recently won the RAC Grass Routes Challenge and received £3,000 prize money. This was as a result of the school travel plan devised through Global Action Plan's Action on Transport. For more information on Action at School have a look on Global Action Plan's website.
